Sensor Selection in Smart Homes
نویسندگان
چکیده
There has been a lot of work focussing on activity recognition in smart homes, with the aim of the home being to monitor the activities of the inhabitant and identify deviations from the norm. For a smart home to support its inhabitants, the recognition system needs to accurately learn from the observations acquired through sensors, which are installed in the home. Given a predefined set of the inhabitant’s daily activities, the question is which sensors are important to accurately recognise these activities. This paper addresses the sensor selection problem through a filter-based approach, which is based on information gain. We evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method on two publicly available smart home datasets. c © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. A Sensor-Based Scheme for Activity Recognition in Smart Homes using Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence
This paper proposes a scheme for activity recognition in sensor based smart homes using Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence. In this work, opinion owners and their belief masses are constructed from sensors and employed in a single-layered inference architecture. The belief masses are calculated using beta probability distribution function. The frames of opinion owners are derived automatically ...
متن کاملSensor Selection to Support Practical Use of Health-Monitoring Smart Environments
The data mining and pervasive sensing technologies found in smart homes offer unprecedented opportunities for providing health monitoring and assistance to individuals experiencing difficulties living independently at home. In order to monitor the functional health of smart home residents, we need to design technologies that recognize and track activities that people normally perform as part of...
متن کاملTree Alignment Based on Needleman-Wunsch Algorithm for Sensor Selection in Smart Homes
Activity recognition in smart homes aims to infer the particular activities of the inhabitant, the aim being to monitor their activities and identify any abnormalities, especially for those living alone. In order for a smart home to support its inhabitant, the recognition system needs to learn from observations acquired through sensors. One question that often arises is which sensors are useful...
متن کاملEnergy Prediction in Smart Environments
In the past decade, smart home environment research has found application in many areas, such as activity recognition, visualization, and automation. However, less attention has been paid to monitoring, analyzing, and predicting energy usage in smart homes, despite the fact that electricity consumption in homes has grown dramatically. In this paper, we extract the useful features from sensor da...
متن کاملEnd User Security & Privacy Concerns with Smart Homes
The Internet of Things is becoming increasingly widespread in home environments. Consumers are transforming their homes into smart homes, with internet-connected sensors, lights, appliances, and locks, controlled by voice or other user-defined automations. Security experts have identified concerns with IoT and smart homes, including privacy risks as well as vulnerable and unreliable devices. Th...
